Electric Underfloor Heating Thermostats, Wi-Fi Controls and Floor Sensors
Choose the right thermostat for electric underfloor heating, from simple manual controls to Wi-Fi smart thermostats with app control. Every thermostat below switches up to 16A and uses a floor sensor (probe) to protect your floor finish. Each one comes with its instructions or datasheet as a free PDF, with no sign-up needed. Need help choosing? Call our UK technical team on 0800 999 7978 or visit our trade counter in Plymouth.
Which electric underfloor heating thermostat do I need?
Every electric heating mat or cable needs a thermostat with a floor probe, so the floor never overheats. Our thermostats come with the probe included. For basic on/off control at the lowest price, choose a manual thermostat such as the RM5. To set heating times for each day, choose a programmable thermostat such as the RT5 touchscreen or Heatmiser Slimline-E V3. To control your heating from your phone, choose the RWi5 Wi-Fi thermostat, which needs no hub, or the Heatmiser neoStat-e V2 with a neoHub.
Wi-Fi and smart thermostats for electric underfloor heating
- RWi5 Wi-Fi Smart Touchscreen Thermostat - Wi-Fi smart thermostat with a free app, touchscreen and full programming. Air sensor and floor probe, 16A / 3600W. No hub needed. Download the technical specification (PDF).
- Heatmiser neoStat-e V2 - Smart thermostat for electric underfloor heating, 16A, with a 3m floor sensor included. Works as a thermostat or timer, with app control through a neoHub. Download the datasheet (PDF).
- Heatmiser neoHub - Smart hub that gives app control of up to 32 Heatmiser Neo thermostats. Apple HomeKit enabled, with no subscription. Download the datasheet (PDF).
Programmable and manual electric floor thermostats
- RT5 Touchscreen Programmable Thermostat - Touchscreen programmable thermostat with an air sensor and floor probe, 16A / 3600W max load. Download the instructions (PDF).
- Heatmiser Slimline-E V3 - Flush mount programmable thermostat for electric underfloor heating, up to 16A, with floor, air or remote sensing and 4 levels per day. Download the datasheet (PDF).
- RM5 Manual Digital Thermostat - Simple manual digital thermostat with air and floor sensing and a clear LCD. 16A for electric heating (3A for water systems). Download the instructions (PDF).
Floor sensors and spares
- Underfloor Heating Floor Sensor Probe (3m) - Spare or replacement floor sensor with a 3m cable, extendable to 20m. Not needed with a new thermostat, as the probe is included. Can also be used as a remote air sensor.

Electric underfloor heating thermostat questions we get asked
Do I need a floor probe for electric underfloor heating?
Yes, and you do not need to buy one separately. Our RT5, RWi5 and RM5 thermostats come with a floor probe, and the Heatmiser neoStat-e V2 includes a 3m floor sensor. The probe sits between the heating cables and measures the floor temperature, so the thermostat can stop the floor overheating. This protects wood, laminate and vinyl floors as well as tiles.
What size thermostat do I need for my heating mat?
The thermostats on this page switch up to 16A, which is around 3600W, so one thermostat can control most single rooms. Add up the wattage of your mats or cables: if the total is more than 3600W, split the room into zones or use a contactor. Our RT5 and RWi5 are both rated at 16A / 3600W.
Can I control electric underfloor heating from my phone?
Yes. The RWi5 connects straight to your Wi-Fi with no hub. The Heatmiser neoStat-e needs a neoHub, which can then control up to 32 Heatmiser Neo devices across your home, including water underfloor heating.
Can I replace an old underfloor heating thermostat?
Usually, yes. Most electric underfloor heating systems use a standard 16A thermostat with a floor probe. If your old probe has failed, you can fit a new 3m floor sensor probe. Check the existing probe type and the instructions for the new thermostat, or call us and we will help.
Who should wire an electric underfloor heating thermostat?
Electric underfloor heating must be connected by a qualified electrician, normally through an RCD protected supply, and in the UK the work must meet Part P of the Building Regulations.
