Which underfloor heating thermostat do I need?

A water underfloor heating system usually needs three parts: a thermostat in each room (zone), a wiring centre that connects the thermostats to the boiler or heat pump and the pump, and an actuator on each manifold loop that opens and closes the flow. For simple control, choose a programmable thermostat such as the UFH Direct 7 Day Digital or Heatmiser Slimline V4. To avoid running cables, choose a wireless thermostat such as the Heatmiser neoAir or Salus SQ610RF. For control from your phone, choose a smart thermostat and add a hub.

Underfloor heating thermostat questions we get asked

Do I need a wiring centre for underfloor heating?
If you have more than one zone, yes. The wiring centre connects every room thermostat and actuator to the boiler or heat pump and the pump, so the system only fires when a room calls for heat. Choose one with enough zones for your rooms, such as the 8 zone UFH Direct ZL-3347 or Heatmiser UH8.

Should I choose a wired or wireless thermostat?
Wired thermostats are ideal for new builds and renovations where cables can be run to each room. Wireless thermostats such as the neoAir, Slimline-RF or SQ610RF are best for retrofits, paired with a wireless wiring centre such as the UH8-RF or Salus KL08RF.

Do I need 230V or 24V actuators?
Match the actuators to your wiring centre. Most systems, including the Heatmiser UH8 and our ZL-3347, use 230V actuators. The IVAR ALC01 can run either 230V or 24V actuators.

Can I control my underfloor heating from my phone?
Yes. Use Heatmiser Neo thermostats with a neoHub, or Salus Quantum thermostats with a UG800 gateway. Both connect to your broadband router and give app control from anywhere.

Where can I find underfloor heating wiring diagrams?
The wiring diagrams are in each manual, for example the Heatmiser UH8 manual (PDF). You will find every manual and datasheet in our underfloor heating datasheet library.
